The Social Justice Council is pleased to announce a new project in the “Focusing Our Light” program. We’re deepening our relationship with Inter-Faith Food Shuttle by taking part in their “BackPack Buddies” program. One in five children are at risk of hunger in North Carolina. BackPack Buddies is designed to provide children from low-income households with nutritious kid friendly groceries for the weekends when school breakfasts and lunches are not available.
Each Friday these children take home a bag containing enough food for six meals and two snacks. UUFR will receive a set of bags and a month’s worth of food to package. It will take an hour or two to assemble the bags, and IFS will pick up a set each Thursday or Friday morning and deliver them to the school. We will fund this effort through Justice Sunday collections. Stay tuned next week for more details!
