The UUFR Race & Culture Book Club will meet on September 11 at 7:00 pm in the Music Room. Our group is reading David Treuer’s The Heartbeat of Wounded Knee: Native America from 1890 to the Present. One reviewer wrote, “Treuer melds history with reportage and memoir. Tracing the tribes’ distinctive cultures from first contact, he explores how the depredations of each era spawned new modes of survival.” The group discussed Parts 1-3 in August and will discuss Parts 4-7 on September 11. If you don’t have a copy, the book is available In Wake County libraries and is available as an e-book, used from various online sources, and in local book stores. For more info contact Chris Wise.
