Members and friends who have already volunteered at the Inter-Faith Food Shuttle’s (IFFS) “Mobile Market” have responded with great enthusiasm for what a rewarding experience this is! On the 2nd Saturday of every month, at Martin Street Baptist Church, IFFS provides free food and people come to “shop.” Volunteers set up, staff, and break down the market. This activity has MANY positive attributes: it feeds people in need; it’s an opportunity for members to work together and increase our visibility in the community; and it brings us into contact with the people we serve.
This project requires 8-10 UUFR folks each month, working alongside volunteers from the host church and many other organizations. The minimum age for participation is 11. The Social Justice Council has acquired UUFR vests for our volunteers to wear in group activities, to make our presence known; and we will wear them for the first time this month! Please take this opportunity to join us in going out into the greater community and putting UUFR’s values into action. Sign up here or email Susan Silverio.
