What is ARM?

Welcome to the first entry in the ARM Blog. In 2015 the UUFR Board created the Anti-Racism Ministry (ARM) to begin transforming our congregation into an actively anti-racism community. By 2016 we were working toward offering a 12-hour education and awareness raising workshop, Living the Pledge to End Racism (LTP) which had been developed by the First UU Church of Richmond.

Since August 2018 we have conducted the training nine times reaching 190 UUFR members and friends, including 17 children. In addition, ARM has hosted numerous forums, workshops and discussions. LTP graduates have been active in many hands-on justice seeking activities.

We, as UU’s and the society at large, are coping with the destructive effects of systemic and institutional racism. We hope that you will return to this page often to get up to date info on UUFR’s anti-racism initiatives as well as to find links to other sources which can expand your awareness.

In response to Covid19, Mark Long is researching racial disparities in both infection rates and outcomes of pandemics. Watch for his report soon.
