Social Justice is Active at the UUFR

Even though our doors have been closed since March, members of our congregation are still participating and increasing their social justice activities. On most Friday mornings, from 11:15 am to 12 noon, volunteers are out collecting for several causes in the UUFR ACTION LOT (formerly known as lower parking lot) at UUFR.

Here is activity from a typical Friday:

  • Food and supplies collection to support Love Wins’ ongoing operations – This week Love Wins needs paper goods, especially take-out containers, coffee cups and coffee, grits (quick is OK but not instant), pancake mix, syrup, butter, oil, disinfectant cleaners, flour, sugar, spaghetti sauce, seasonings, dried beans or black eyed peas, socks, individual ketchup packets and pop-top cans for take-out meals when people don’t have can openers! They can also use plastic or paper grocery bags, so please donate them to Love Wins instead of recycling them. Please meet Linda Liles tomorrow in the UUFR parking lot from 11:15-Noon to drop off items. Thank you for your generosity.
  • UUFR Saturday Partners: Baby Essentials – UUFR’s Immigrant and Refugee Justice Ministry Team is helping support local refugee families with infants by freeing up the families’ limited funds so they can be used for rent and food. The team is collecting diapers (sizes 2, 3, 4, 6 and 8), baby wipes, used car seats, clothing size 2 and under, and gift cards, Drop off items in the UUFR parking lot tomorrow morning. Contact Amy Blackwell with questions.
  • UUFR Stitchers: 10-inch squares – Nancy Devereux will be in the parking lot Friday morning to accept knitted or crocheted squares which will be part of a blanket for refugee families who relocate to this area.
