UUFR’s The Immigrant and Refugee Ministry Team is working closely with the two local refugee resettlement agencies. There are many opportunities to assist with the Afghan refugees coming to Raleigh.
- Priority 1. We are furnishing a home for a family of four, already in Raleigh. The family includes Mom, Dad, a 5 ½ year old boy and a 2 ½ year old girl. Sandy Pearce is our lead coordinator. We have many of the items needed for their home but have created a signup genius for those that are missing. The family will move into their new home December 10. Items can be delivered to Action Parking lot Friday Dec 3, 10:30 am to noon; Sunday Dec 5 Lower Lobby until 12 pm; Tuesday Dec 7 6-7:30 pm; and Friday Dec 10. 10:30 to noon.
- Priority 2. Donate items to The Green Chair project. They are helping furnish homes for all of the refugees arriving in Raleigh. There is a drop off location on Capital Blvd and they do scheduled pickups. See https://thegreenchair.org/donate/
- Priority 3 Donate clothing to First Baptist Church, Salisbury St. fbcraleigh.org Their donation location is accessible with convenient free parking. The clothing is provided free of charge to refugees.
- Priority 4. Consider becoming a volunteer ESL teacher, driver, mentor, support person for the local agencies. Contact [email protected] or Lutheran Services
