CHILDREN AND YOUTH UUFR FOOD SECURITY SUMMER PROJECTS (2022)

HAVE FUN AND DO GOOD AT THE SAME TIME!

 

  • INTERFAITH FOOD SHUTTLE
  1. Martin Street Church Mobile Food Market – Great for groups, pack and distribute food boxes directly to families in need of food, 2nd Saturday of the month, 8:30-11:30 am, Children age 11+ with parents, Contact Larry Meisner at [email protected]
  2. Grocery Bags for Seniors – Great for groups of up to 6 people (ages 13+ with at least 2 adults), pack and deliver fresh food and nutritional items to supplement meals for senior citizens. Children 8-16 must be registered and the ratio of children to adults is 1 adult:4 children, youth ages 17+ do not have to be accompanied by parents. Waivers must be signed. Usually the 3rd Thursday from 1 -3 pm, but other day/times are available. Contact Karen Goldfarb: [email protected]
  3. Sponsor a food collection drive in at UUFR or in your neighborhood and deliver the food to the Interfaith Food Shuttle.  Contact Karen Goldfarb:  [email protected]
  • URBAN MINISTRIES
  1. Urban Ministries Food Pantry – Great for groups up to 6 people (ages 13 and over), Purchase food (see list in Chalice) and place in marked cabinets in Founder’s Hall at UUFR on Sundays or Monday-Thursday during office hours.
  2. Helen Wright Center –  Bake desserts and deliver them to Jude Oliveri-Burde or the Helen Wright Center for Women experiencing homelessness on the 2nd Monday of the month. Starting in July we will serve meals to the women at the Center. Contact Jude Oliveri-Burde [email protected]
  • BLOUNT STREET COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT CENTER FOR PEOPLE EXPERIENCING HOMELESSNESS

  • COMMUNITY SUPPORTED AGRICULTURE

Family Volunteer and Adventure Day at Rocky Ridge Farm

Join our CSA Farm Partners, Steve and Elke McCalla, as they prepare or harvest their fields. Tasks and fun for all ages and abilities. Children and youth (with adult supervision) are welcome. A half-day of adventure and learning through active engagement in light farm tasks. Work and chat together, learn about bio-char, regenerative farming, the advantages of caterpillar tunnels, how and when to harvest delightful fresh veggies, and more! Must wear close-toed shoes; bringing your own gardening gloves is advised. Hand tools provided. Date(s) will be announced.
