Path to Membership

Membership team

Perhaps you've been attending worship services, participating in youth or adult religious education classes, or attending a circle dinner or other social event, but need more information. Many newcomers take theĀ Intro to UUFR Class which provides a grounding in the basics of Unitarian Universalism and an introduction to UUFR. You can register for the class at the Welcome Desk during services or by contacting This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it .

Note: The next Intro to UUFR Class will be held 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday, December 5, 2009. Beginning in 2010, the class will consist of two Wednesday night sessions from 7 to 9 p.m. Childcare can be provided if requested. Dinner is served by the Wednesday Night Dinner group starting at 6:15 p.m. for a small fee. If you are interested in dinner, please sign up downstairs by Founders Hall the Sunday before. The menu will be posted there and in the Chalice.

Responsibilities and Rights of Membership

Members vote in congregational elections, take part in congregational decisionmaking, and are eligible for rites of passage without charge. Members are expected to participate in the life of the congregation and to make a pledge of financial support.

The Joining Process

We have set aside First Sundays as Joining Sundays, but a person can become a member any time. We'll answer your questions, do the required paperwork, such as registration form, pledge card and interest inventory, and have you sign the membership book. You'll receive a New Member Packet with information about UUism, UUFR, and activities of interest.

The signing of the membership books is a formality, and an important historical record of members since the church was conceived. It is required before new member paperwork will be processed by the church office.

New members are presented to the congregation in a welcoming ceremony during the 11 a.m. service. A gift, such as a flower, is presented to the new member.
