Coming this fall -- Taoism for UU’s
According to legend, Taoism (pronounced Dowism) originated with a man named Lao Tzu who lived around 600 BC and wrote the Tao Te Ching, a testament to humanity's oneness and at-home-ness in the universe. This text has influenced millions around the world. In the two Sunday morning sessions devoted to this topic, we will explore the history, the meaning and what the Tao (literally meaning the Path or Way) has to offer UU’s searching for a way or path in modern life. Led by Wally Meyers, Fred Breidt and Tom Atkinson

June 12 -- "The Myth of the Buddha,"
Presented by Wally Myers.
Having just completed the “The Power of Myth” videos with Joseph Campbell and Bill Moyers and discussed Buddhism, Wally will tie these
together with a video on the "Myth of the Buddha," by Bernardo Bertolucci, who directed the Academy Award winning film “The Last Emperor” as well as Keanu Reeves as the Buddha in “Little Buddha.” Time magazine called this file “seductive and ravishing” because it is so realistic and metaphorical.
Per Wally, "most of us are living with the metaphorical Jesus one way or another. The metaphorical Buddha should help us appreciate the power of myth by comparison with Jesus. Perhaps we will come to more fully appreciate the art of the metaphor."
Wally will present 45 minutes excerpted from the “Little Buddha” film, with 30 minutes of discussion following.
May 28, June 5 and 19 - Planning for Gospel Music Service
We will spend several of the upcoming Sundays working on the Gospel Music program which will be presented as the main service on Sunday July 10.
We will need help "brainstorming" in the early stages of preparing for this service, so need plenty of participation by everyone, including those of us who can't sing or who don't plan to actually take part in the service. We will need people to do the Chalice lighting, readings, etc., in addition to the musicians.
Note: on June 5 we will meet in the Emerson Room in Peace Hall (Don Garrett's former office, where we met much of last year)
May 29, 2005 - Gospel Music
