Due to previous cancellation, the program about Myanmar will be presented January 28th. Myanmar, also known as Burma, is the largest country in southeast Asia. It has recently emerged from years of isolation under a harsh military regime. In 2011, the military grip was somewhat lessened and the generals began encouraging tourism as a way of bringing commerce into the country and preventing further isolation. In 2014, Janet Rattray joined a tour of Laos and Myanmar that included a week long voyage down the Irrawaddy River. She will show some of her photos of this interesting trip.
SMF meets for 1 hour on Sunday morning (9:30-10:30). Our purpose is to expose ourselves to topics of current relevance. Sometimes we have videos to get us started. We always have lively discussion.
