SMF meets for one hour on Sunday morning (9:30-10:30). Our purpose is to expose ourselves to topics of current relevance. Sometimes we have videos to get us started. We always have lively discussion.

UUFR Member Richard Epstein will favor us with a multimedia presentation called: Food, Our Faith, and the Future of Planet Earth

What’s the most significant thing any individual can do to decrease global warming? No, it’s not installing solar panels, using LED lights, driving electric cars, recycling, or composting, although all of those are important. In fact it’s one of the few things we can do that has no upfront cost, and it would help almost as much as all the other things an individual can do combined! As Zen master Thich Nhat Hanh has said, making the transition to a plant-based diet is the most effective way an individual can stop climate change. If cattle were their own nation, they would be the world’s third-largest emitter of greenhouse gases.According to a 2016 study, business-as-usual emissions from the food sector could be reduced by as much as 70 percent through adopting a vegan diet and 63 percent for a vegetarian diet, which includes cheese, milk, and eggs.
