Cash bail bonding is one of the most unjust and racially biased components of our criminal justice system. The national bail bonding industry represents well over a $3 billion industry each year. In North Carolina, the revenue exceeds $3 million. This revenue stream is composed of a large number of private bail bonding companies who, once a bail bond is set, will offer to guarantee the bond, provided they receive,  upfront, 15% of the bond amount (non-refundable). David Bland will describe the pernicious cash bail bond system in North Carolina and the efforts taking place to  reform it.
