The High School Youth Group (HSYG) meets weekly on Sundays.
Additional youth group activities are also offered throughout the year, including youth conferences (CONs) at The Mountain Conference and Retreat Center in western North Carolina.
High school aged youth are also welcome to serve as Teen Assistants in our Sunday school program for children or encouraged to attend the Sunday morning worship service.
Teen Assistant Program:
For several years we have offered teens in 10th-12th grades this leadership opportunity. It has proven to be an effective way to engage our teens while providing much appreciated support for our Religious Exploration programs.
Teens accepted into this program serve as Assistants in our RE classes as they are able (advanced scheduling is required, but it is okay if teens can only serve on some weeks). We hold periodic youth staff meetings, at which they receive $5 per unit of service they have completed via gift cards.
If your teen would be interested in serving, please have them complete the application here.
Ministry with Youth Ministry Team
It is time for us to take a good look at our programs; it is time for us to envision what we want to be offering to teens, to plan for the actualization of that vision, and to greater invest our resources in our youth. To that end, we invite you to consider serving on an emerging ‘Ministry with Youth’ ministry team
(or to suggest others who you think would be a good fit). If you have interest, please email Tryst Chagnon
It would also be very helpful for our parents of youth and youth (9th-12th graders) to complete our survey here.
Upcoming HSYG Schedule:
This Sunday evening, March 31st, High School Youth Group will be going on a Spring Nature Field Trip! We’ll meet at Hemlock Bluffs Nature Preserve at 6 p.m. for an evening nature walk, a campfire, and s’mores! Wear close-toed shoes to search for salamanders and frogs. Please also bring an umbrella or rain jacket in case of wet weather. We’ll also listen for owl calls and use dip nets to search for crayfish. We’ll finish up at 8:00 p.m. (Note – no after service meeting this day).
