Social Action The fight for women’s suffrage; the struggle for civil rights; war resistance; relief efforts from New Orleans to Darfur: Unitarian Universalists have historically been part of the fabric of our nation’s great social justice movements. Our belief system is grounded in an active commitment to peace, fairness, equity, and compassion. Social action is the vehicle through which we express that commitment. At UUFR, social action is integral to our mission and a cornerstone of our faith. The seven UU principles are the guiding force that underlies our individual and collective choices of where and how we engage in social action work. Specific social action activities range from direct service to those in need to political activism to advocacy and awareness-building. We have also as a congregation adopted statements of conscience on marriage equality and the death penalty. Members of the Fellowship participate in social action work locally, regionally and globally, both within the UU community and through external organizations that represent our values. Join us in our efforts to improve the lives of others and the world. Our Mission: To build a Unitarian Universalist community that transforms lives and empowers people to serve the world.
