Social Action Financial Report

The members and friends of UUFR generously supported social justice work in Wake County, North Carolina, the United States and the international community through the Fourth and Fifth Sunday collections in 2008. $12,051 was collected during 4th Sundays for an average of $1004/Sunday. See below for a list of organizations that received 4th Sunday funds. $4276 was collected during the four 5th Sunday collections, providing between $942 and $1334 to the UU Service Committee, RICH Park's tutoring program, Interfaith Power and Light, and Voices Together. The Social Action Committee allocated the funds based on the need of groups working on poverty/sickness relief, peace/equal rights, and sustainability. A formal request was completed by each group and then discussed by the committee. Decisions are based on important considerations such as relationship to the UU Principles and Purposes, 501(c)3 status and urgency of the need for the funds. Contact: Diann Irwin.

Upcoming Fifth Sundays

The following organizations have been chosen to receive the proceeds of Fifth Sunday collections in 2009.

  • May 31, 2009 - Method Child Development Center (providing daycare for the children of RICH Park).  Our vision is to provide a daycare option for children of all backgrounds and circumstances that acts as an extension and support for the family.  Method serves over 75 children; nearly half the children receive a subsidy for the programs we provide.  UUFR's Fifth Sunday collection helps support enrichment activities that develop social, academic and cultural skills.
  • August 30, 2009 - RICH Park.  RICH (Raleigh Inter-Church Housing) Park is an affordable housing development in the Method neighborhood of Raleigh, established by UUFR and four other local churches in 1969. Members of our congregation tutor children at RICH Park. Contact: Bob Sundstrom
  • November 29, 2009 - San Ramon's elementary schools (to help cover the cost of lunch for the children).  Sister Communities of San Ramon, Nicaragua  is a non-profit organization which funds projects in the community of San Ramon, such as municipal water, school supplies and school construction.
