Upcoming Events at UUFRWe have a very full weekend coming up! Not only are we holding a music workshop this weekend, and not only is the HS Youth Group ‘80’s retro dance this Saturday evening -- but we’re hosting the Red Cross Blood Drive on Sunday. The Adult Discussion Group which usually meets in the Clara Barton Room has graciously given up their space for the Blood Drive, and will instead be joining other adults and families for a special First Sunday breakfast in Founder’s Hall at 9:30. In addition, I will be preaching on Diversity and the Wake County Schools during the 11:00 service. Like many of you, I am deeply concerned about the School Board’s recent actions. I spoke to the School Board at last Tuesday night’s meeting and will share with the congregation what I told them, what I heard in reply, and what I think needs to happen next. We can expect a number of visitors on Sunday. In addition, members of our Young Adult Ministry will be filming parts of the service and setting up video interviews about “What UUFR Means to You.” We hope you’ll be willing to briefly share something of your memories and hopes about our Fellowship with them, so they can create a video we can all be proud of! There’s more information about upcoming UUFR activities below. I am both grateful and proud to be a part of this community that offers so much to so many people in so many ways! We'll supply the coffee and bagels, you bring fresh fruit, pastries, juice, or whatever you'd like to eat and share! 11:00 a.m. -- Traditional Service: "Are We There Yet? Diversity and the Wake County School System," Rev. Tom Rhodes. After two generations of intentionally promoting diversity within Wake County Schools and despite overwhelming satisfaction with current school assignments, the WCPSS Board is on the verge of abandoning diversity in favor of so-called Neighborhood Schools. But just who is our neighbor? Is it the person who looks and thinks like us, or is our neighbor someone from the other side of the tracks? And can we abandon diversity without being racist, or is there a middle ground? Join us for a provocative sermon on a timely topic! Monday, March 8th 6:30 p.m. -- Congregations for Social Justice 4th Annual Meeting Join us from 6:30-8:30 p.m. for a night of interfaith fellowship and to find out what our Affordable Housing and Community Corrections task groups have been working on.
